Fujifilm Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400, Japanese Film Look Custom Settings for Streets & Portraits
A new film recipe that is intended to mimic the actual Fujifilm Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400 35mm colour negative and this is one of the experiments I did and created based on an actual 35mm film photo sample. It might not look the same due to the constant changing of light conditions. This Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400 is one of the Classic Negative film recipes that have the Japanese film look. The base film simulation Classic Negative is supposed to mimic the original colour negative.
One of the reasons Fujicolor Superia X-tra 400 is such a great film is its high color accuracy. This film captures colors accurately and renders them with great vibrancy, making it a great choice for photographers looking to capture realistic colors.
What Is Fujicolor X-Tra 400 Film Recipe All About?
What I really like about the Fujicolor X-Tra 400 is the moody greenish tones in the dark area, based on my research on the film samples, correct me if I’m wrong. Other similar Japanese film-look recipes that you can try out are the Fujifilm Natura 1600, Fujicolor C200 & Hue Obscure. This recipe is based on the Classic Negative film simulation and mimics the high-speed daylight-balanced colour negative. Suitable for cityscape, sightseeing, travel and portraits.
* The Best Way To Shoot With Fujicolor X-Tra 400 Film Recipe
To get the best results out of this variant of Fujicolor X-Tra 400 for Fujifilm X-Trans IV cameras,  always shoot under the sunlight especially during the morning or evening. Also best use for portraits with direct sunlight as seen in the sample photos below. You can overexpose with the exposure compensation dial, up to one stop overexpose to get the mood that you want. If you want to achieve the greenish tones, make sure to shoot at something black on the background to achieve the results the look.
All the streets and portrait samples are shot with the Fujifilm X-T4 and will work for the Fujifilm X-Trans IV sensor cameras including the X100V, X-T4, X-T30II, X-E4, X-S10, and X-Pro3.
Are these Fujifilm recipes compatible with the newer Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, & X-H2S? It doesn’t hurt to try. I guess the tone will be the same/similar since it rely on the White Balance Shift and Kelvin temperature, I’ll let you experiment with it. Cheers!
