Moody B&W Street Portrait Photoshoot – Fujifilm X-T4

It seems like I have missed out on blogging about the moody B&W street portrait photoshoot that I shot a while ago. Let’s get started and share some of my B&W street portraits that look moody and dreamy. This was the second photoshoot session with Shirley before the Qipao photoshoot that I’ve done recently. Most photos from this collection are shot SOOC using the Noir Bloom film recipe on the Fujifilm X-T4. This is one of the black & white film simulation recipes that is great for dreamy portraits.

The photoshoot session was shot at the same location as the street fashion shoot with Shirley. It was a gloomy day in Kuala Lumpur as usual in the morning. When it comes to portrait photography, I usually used my favourite portrait camera settings on the Fujifilm X-T4. I like the outcome of this photoshoot session because I rarely shoot portraits in B&W and that was the best time to test out the film recipe.

Gloomy Day, Best For Moody B&W Portraits

The weather was good, it was cloudy, and gloomy which best suit my photoshoot theme. The only thing was I need to find the best natural light as much as I can. Although I’m not creative enough for moody shots, I’m learning it by shooting moody portraits on film with my old Yashica film camera. The B&W street portrait turned out great, the model is good at posing as usual which also help me to get some good portraits.

Noir Bloom, is one of the film recipes for Fujifilm cameras best used with the diffusion filter for moody vibes. Most photos are shot with the Fujinon XF35mm F2 lens attached to the Moment CineBloom filter. You know, I’m very greedy, I always wanted the maximum dreamy film-look effects in my photos, so 20% density is best for me. I also don’t mind overexposing my photos, just nice for the eyes at the safest level without making the photos look weird. Hopefully, I will be able to shoot more B&W portraits in the future and share more sample photos.

Conclusion

Do you agree that cloudy days are great for moody portraits or do you prefer a sunny day instead? Film grain has been added to give a vintage black & white film vibe. The B&W street portrait series exposure is adjusted using exposure compensation in Fujifilm X Raw Studio and in the meantime maintain the highlight & shadow settings of Noir Bloom.
